Foote in the Door believes in open casting and supporting a diverse production environment with the philosophy that art should reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live.
Foote in the Door Productions (FDP) is an independently owned, Edmonton based, not for profit musical theatre company. They were founded in 2013 by Russ Farmer and Ruth Wong-Miller, who met as classmates at the Foote Theatre School. The name Foote in the Door is a hat-tip to where it all began. Since 2013, the company has produced six successful Fringe productions including (2019's The Marvelous Wonderettes '58 was hailed at Colin MacLean's favourite Fringe Musical of 2019, and 2017's Disenchanted was rated 5 stars by Vue Weekly and sold out their full run).
The company has produced over 13 mainstage productions, including Rodgers and Hammerstein's A Grand Night for SInging, along with 3 other productions in 2022: Into the Woods (January 2022), The Edmonton premiere of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, and the classic Kiss Me Kate (November 2022). Other mainstage productions include She Loves Me (2015), How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (2016), Carousel (2017), Little Women the Musical (2017), Company (2018), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2018), A Little Night Music (2019), and the sold out production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast (2019.)
Foote in the Door will present their 10th season in 2023-2024, beginning with an anniversary production of She Loves Me (November 17-26, 2023), followed by the hilarious Avenue Q in June 2024, with the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance closing the 2024 year.
